Professor Dr. Mohammad Arshad Ali
Chairperson of the Arshad-Rowshan Welfare Trust
Professor Dr. Mohammad Arshad Ali is the Chairperson of the Arshad-Rowshan Welfare Trust and a distinguished academic, educationist, and administrator with an illustrious career spanning nearly six decades. He is currently a Professor and Head of the Department of English at World University of Bangladesh, with responsibilities in teaching, research, and administration.
Professor Dr. Ali holds an M.A. in English from Rajshahi University, an M.A. in Applied Linguistics and English Language Teaching from ASA University Bangladesh and a Ph.D. from Islamic University, Kushtia. His doctoral research, titled “Shakespeare’s Influence on Girish Chandra Ghosh: A Critical Study from the Perspective of Colonial Bengal,” reflects his deep engagement with Shakespearean studies, colonial and post-colonial literary traditions, and comparative literature.
He began his professional journey during his student years as the Assistant Headmaster of Machpara School in Rajbari. After completing his postgraduate studies, he joined Hossain Shaheed Suhrawardy College in Magura as a Lecturer and later served as Principal of Pirganj College in Thakurgaon.
In 1969, he returned to serve the people of his ancestral home and surrounding areas to became the founding Principal and Professor of English at Pangsha College, where he served until 1988 and made lasting contributions to higher education for this underprivileged area.
From 1988 to 2006, he served with distinction as an Inspector of Colleges under the University of Dhaka, playing a critical role in academic supervision and quality assurance.
From 2006 to 2025, Professor Dr. Ali was associated with Prime University, Dhaka, where he held several senior leadership positions, including Acting Vice-Chancellor, Treasurer, Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, Dean of the Faculty of Law, Professor and Head of the Department of English, Registrar, Controller of Examinations, Research Director and Board Secretary.
His research expertise spans Shakespearean studies, translation studies, comparative literature, education policy, colonial and post-colonial studies, cultural studies, societal amelioration, human security, language policy and planning, language learning and teaching, academic administration, and the education system of Bangladesh. He has published more than sixty articles in peer-reviewed journals and national newspapers such as The Daily Star, The New Nation, and The Bangladesh Observer.
He is also the author of several books, including The Essential Literary Terms, Thoughts on Academic and Cultural Affairs, A Handbook on Developing Writing Skills, and A Help Book of H.S.C. English.
Professor Dr. Ali has played a pivotal role in academic publishing as the Editor of the Prime University Journal and Chief Editor of the university’s annual reports and newsletters. He has supervised nearly twenty undergraduate and postgraduate dissertations and has contributed to textbook development for the National Curriculum and Textbook Board (NCTB).
He is a Life Member of the Asiatic Society of Bangladesh and Bangla Academy and has held numerous governance and advisory roles in educational, cultural, and civic institutions. He is also the founder of the Gopalpur Mohammadia Orphanage and Madrasa and a founding member of several educational institutions.
Beyond his professional life, Professor Dr. Ali has successfully raised four sons and a daughter and is a proud grandfather. He remains actively engaged in social welfare activities, combining intellectual leadership with humanitarian commitment.
As Chairperson of the Arshad-Rowshan Welfare Trust, he brings a rare blend of scholarly depth, administrative experience, and social responsibility to advance the Trust’s mission of education, welfare, and human development.

Ms. Rowshan Ara Begum is a Trustee of the Arshad-Rowshan Welfare Trust and a retired school teacher with a long and distinguished career in education. She served with dedication at Mirpur Girls’ Ideal Laboratory Institute until her retirement in August 2011, earning wide respect for her commitment to academic excellence, discipline, and the moral development of her students. Notably, she was the first girl from her locality to earn her Secondary School Certificate as a regular student.
